Notes for Winamp Users (or Other 3rd Party Players)

Note that some internet radio stations use proprietary stream players embedded in web pages, and won't play in iTunes.

However tens of thousands of stations will play in iTunes, for example those at Shoutcast.com. You may experience trouble, though, if you already have an internet radio player installed such as Winamp -- when you click on a radio link, Winamp will play instead of iTunes.

You can fix this problem, so that all radio stations will play through iTunes (and therefore work with SLTunes to set the radio station on your land). Follow this short guide to fix this problem for iTunes:

The file type usually used for Shoutcast is a ".pls" (playlist) file, this is what your player uses to play a music stream. If you have iTunes installed, it will associate itself automatically with this file type. If you have Winamp (or other players) installed, it will associate this file type with Winamp. This help section will show you how to associate .pls files (or any file type) with iTunes.

(Note that Winamp is a great player, however SLTunes is currently only able to work with iTunes at this time.)

1) Go to your Settings->Control panel, and open "Folder Options".

2) In Folder Options, select the "File Types" tab. You will get a list of file types. Scroll to .pls file type.

3) In the lower part of the dialog, you will see the name of the currently used player, and a "Change" button. Click the change button.

4) Select "iTunes" as your player for this file type. It should appear near the top of the list. If it does not, browse for "itunes.exe" in "c:\Program Files\iTunes". Select iTunes as your player, you are done!
